Being at the beach on holiday is pure bliss. The gentle caress of warm sand beneath your toes, the rhythmic lullaby of waves brushing up against the shore, and the sun's golden embrace on your skin create an instant escape. Greece's coastal charm is a timeless blend of style and leisure. Greek beaches are like no other, the Aegean Sea is the prefect atmosphere for swimming, sun bathing and slow living. Here are the top beaches (in my opinion) that are worth taking a detour for the next time you visit Greece.
Elafonissi Beach:
This Cretean beach is famous for its pink sand - however the brightness and vividness of the colour changes between the seasons and day-to-day conditions. Regardless, the water is crystal clear and beautiful to swim in, and definitely a great beach a visit.
Therma Beach:
On Kos in Agios Fokas is a beach which volcanic hot springs that naturally heat the water to bubbling temperatures. The heat of the water combined with the sulfur content in the water is free therapy for your body. While it isn't the prettiest beach and is down a rather large cliff, this beach is absolutely worth the detour for.
Navagio Beach:
Better known as shipwreck beach in Zakynthos due the large shipwreck firmly stuck on the white sand. This beach is only accessible by boat, but totally an experience you'll never forget with the vibrant blue sea and multiple caves to explore.
Tsigrado Beach:
This beach on the tranquil island of Milos has, despite it's beauty, a rather difficult decent to the sand via a not entirely secure ladder or the safe option, by boat. Yet, if you are able to get to the beach, you will not be disappointed. A true gem of a beach that hasn't been heavily commercialised and therefore feels that extra bit special.
Kioni Beach, Ithaca:
Located in Ithaca, an island off the coast of Kefalonia in the Ionian Sea, Kioni Beach is right next to the harbour and boasts views of tree covered mountains and bright blue seas. A perfect spot to spend the afternoon after a morning of exploring the town and harbour.
Perissa Black Sand Beach:
The black sand as result of the volcanic activity on Santorini on this beach has made it famous. This beach is brilliant for calm swimming due to the peaceful temperament of the sea and even better for snorkelling as the shores have a wondrous wealth of fish to spot.
