The colour combinations that didn't work well together were drilled into my memory from a young age: black and blue, red and pink, jean and jean and mixing metals. In 2023, we're leaving this old and incorrect doctrine behind. Mixing silver and gold is well and truly fashionable.
When I turned 15, I did the big switch from silver jewellery to gold, and at that young age, I believed that it was a key sign of maturing. Changing my highly decorated ear into a golden symphony of earrings and ear cuffs felt fitting for a young woman. Yet, I have now come to realise that the true indiction of growing up and into your own person is understanding that the rules of long ago no longer apply. Sticking with a singular metal is irrelevant to adult-hood; and mixing metals, if that's what appeals to you, is the way to go.
And, if that is a fashion crime, then hold me accountable. My go to way to add a subtle blend of metals is on my wrists, combining gold and silver bracelets is a good way to ease in to it. Some of my favourite bracelets are pre-combined silver and gold, to add the perfect twist to an everyday outfit. These Monica Vinader bracelets are the ideal beginner mixed metal piece.

Once you've elevated your wrist to include mixed metals, the next style step is to attack your ears and get creative. One of the many joys of mixing metals is the creative joy you can create by redesigning an section of your everyday fashion. What finally converted my mind into accepted mixed metals as a jewellery option was revamping my ear stacks. I have, what some may say, is an impressive twelve piercings in my ears and with that comes a near limitless amount of combinations to pick. Different studs, hoops, linking chains, dangly styles, the options are endless. Currently, my ears are in a strong hoop phase, with nine of my twelve piercings adorned with a hoop. These are my favourite mixed metal stacks.
